Champion System Athlete John Hirsch Featured in NY Daily News "Ask An Expert"

Expert: Triathlete & Team Continuum coach John Hirsch
Question from: Rolando Ricardez (@R_Ricardez)
Q: As a beginner triathlete I have been spending quite some time on my bike. I wonder whether cycling helps me with my running. My question is: is cycling going to make me a slower or a faster runner? Are the muscles used in cycling completely different from those used in running? Or are they complementary? Should I spend less time on the bike as I prepare for a marathon or is it ok for me to cycle on cross-training days?
A: For most novice endurance sports athletes, doing more of anything helps with everything. If you are cycling more than before you started any endurance sports, you are likely to see fitness gains and that will translate over to running. Because cycling is low impact, you will remain injury free while building your fitness, which is very important as many new runners find themselves doing too much too fast and getting hurt. The muscles used are not exactly the same, nor is the movement, so at some point, there are diminished returns.
Champion System Athlete David Velleux Wins the USPRO National Criterium Championship!

August 15, 2010
In a powerful, scene-stealing performance that has become increasingly common for Kelly Benefit Strategies Pro Cycling, David "Le Carcajou" Veilleux sprinted to victory at the USPRO Criterium Championship in Glencoe, Illinois. The Canadian, who sped across the line in his own country's red Criterium Champion's kit, became the first ever rider from Canada to win both the Canadian and American Criterium championships. Although he cannot add the stars and stripes jersey to his growing collection due to his nationality, he was the outright winner on the day and helped the team crown their second USPRO Criterium Champion (Martin Gilbert won the race in 2007) in its brief four year history.

Champion System Announces Title Sponsorship of the MAC Cyclocross Series

With just one month remaining until officially kicking off the 2010/2011 international cyclocross season in Pennsylvania on September 11, the Mid-Atlantic Championship Cyclocross Series (better known as MAC) has announced a new title sponsorship with Champion System Sportswear, a leader in custom technical custom apparel. The 11-race series, which stretches from the tip of New York’s Long Island to the southern city of Baltimore 450 kilometers away, will now be known as the “Champion System MAC Series”.
“We’re excited to be the title sponsor of the MAC series” said Charlie Issendorf , VP of Sales at Champion System. “Supporting cyclocross teams and events is a big part of who we are at Champion System, and we wish the best of luck to all the racers competing in the series.”
As part of their agreement with the series, Champion Systems will be providing points leader jerseys in eight categories for at least the next two years. Champion will also provide series champion apparel not only for 2010 and 2011 series champions, but also for defending champs from the 2009 season.
Champion Systems joins Carrier Class and Revolution Wheelworks as new sponsors for the 2010 season. Revolution Wheelworks is name familiar to many ‘cross fans as one of the sponsors of Valentin Schertz, who will be defending his Champion System MAC title with the help of his new Philadelphia Cyclocross School team. Probably less familiar, though more ubiquitous within the lives of bike racers and their families, is the CarrierClass Group; a world class provider of wireless communication and green energy infrastructure. Also sponsoring the 2010 season are long-time MAC sponsors BikeReg.com and Hammer Nutrition.
The Champions Systems MAC Series kicks off with the first UCI-sanctioned ‘cross race in the world for the 2010-2011 international season with the Nittany Cross around the world-famous “T-town” Velodrome at Pennsylvania’s Valley Preferred Cycling Center. The eleven race series visits five states and includes nine UCI-sanctioned races. This year, Charm City and Granogue, traditionally the most highly attended races on the schedule, have both expanded to two-day formats. Last year’s Elite Champions, Switzerland’s Valentin Scherz and American Laura Van Gilder both intend to defend their Champion System MAC Championships, with Scherz bringing some additional firepower in the form of yet another Swiss rider, Anthony Grand.

The Champion System team received its invitation to the prestigious six-day race only at the last minute, and team director Ray Alba and DS Miguel Morras had to scramble to finalize the recruitment of its 2009 members to field a team for this event. Along with Lisban and Gavi, the team includes Blake Longacre, Raj Seepersaud and Chris Litnaman. This year’s event, held October 17-25, features very fast and technical circuit races and two point-to-point events with top amateurs and professionals from around the world. Champion System is also providing the leaders’ jerseys for this race.
Says Scott Kaylin, one of the owners of Champion System: “A stage win is just the icing on the cake. The Champion System KraftGenie team has been part of Champion System family almost from its inception. We have supported each beneficially for years. Seeing one of our riders on the podium in such prestigious race in Asia represents the mutual hard work and time invested on both sides. It also sets the tone for the ’09 season."
